I will gladly try this challenge. I've been having green smoothies for breakfast for at at least 4 times a week. Now, I want to keep doing so for 7 days straight. I also want to supplement some of my dinner meals with them. I find the recipe from the Glowing Skin Green Smoothie to be refreshing and tasty. Look it up on youtube and you will know what I'm talking about. I've been blending and pureeing water, lettuce, spinach, kale and/or chard, celery, an apple, a banana, a pear, a quarter size ginger piece, and half a lemon. Combination of all this would yield me about 2 and a half glasses-which I'd drink one in the morning and the save the other glass for an afternoon snack and the last half is left in the fridge for a nlater evening snack.

Tips for those who just started

1) It is time consuming. So wake up early to prepare and clean your fruits and leafy greens. Also, it's a messy business so be prepare to spend time cleaning your chopping board, your knife, your blender and left over cuts from your fruits and veggies.

2) Drink plenty of water. Even though this smoothie is a fibrous drink, you still need water to flush it out. I was dumbfounded as to why I was constipated even though I was drinking this smoothie every morning. I spoke with a colleague on this matter and she told me I need water to help my digestive system flush out. Ha. Make sure you plenty of water.

3) Go for organic. Sad to say, our foods are ridden with pesticides and often the pesticides even get into the farming soil and into our fruits and veggies through the root. A banana has tough skin, so you don't have to worry about that. Yet, our leafy greens, apples, pears have very thin skin and will absorb pesticide.

A trick I heard is to rinse them with apple cider. I've never tried this but it'll supposedly help rid some of the pesticides off your food. I still vouch for organic though. I do understand that organic food is expensive...but it is the surest way to get all your nutrients from your fruits and leafy greens without ingesting pesticides. If you can't afford it, I would recommend going to your local farmer market. They offer great deals there and often they will be willing to bargain with you. I suck at bargaining, so I don't even bother with it. My sister can do so much better. I'd let her do the talking. I've been encountering deals on me on like last week, I brought a bunch of organic kale,a bunch of swiss chard and a bunch of carrots for 5 bucks!

Hopefully, you will benefit from these tips.Take care!

I have mild psoriasis and psoriatic nails that are clearing up because of the green smoothies!! This is really exciting to me because I've tried so many things and nothing else works like the smoothies. It's my personal opinion that psoriasis is linked to liver congestion/toxicity and so I've been adding half a beet plus the leaves to most of smoothies since beet is supposed to help cleanse the liver. Some other beneficial side-effects are that the quality of my sleep is much improved, I don't have to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, my skin is literally GLOWING, irritability and anxiety both much reduced, and my cravings for junk food are all but gone! I also feel like my thinking is clearer and I have less fatigue and "brain fog."

Susan, you need to add more fruit to your smoothie to make it palatable. Next time, try adding 2 bananas and maybe less kale, which is especially "green" tasting. I like to add half a lemon (peel and all!) when I use kale or parsley to cut that green taste. Stick with it and find some combos you like. I love adding apples and frozen berries to our smoothies and sometimes I add a couple of drops of liquid stevia if my ratio of greens is higher than it should be. I think 50/50 is good. Any more greens than that and it can be hard to drink because of the taste. :)
