I have been looking at the table of contents of these (or index.) I have 1000 cookbooks (Ok maybe 300) - and none that are raw. we have major food allergies and I find myself cooking raw because .well...it's easier. I want a cookbook that does NOT just give me all smoothie recipes...and NOT just 'desserts' because it thinks that is what people want. I can make my own smoothie recipes- and there are mre than plenty dessert recipes on just this blog to keep me happy. I'm looking for 'main dish' inspiration. various off shoots of salads...but also other stuff (like the 'taco' recipe given here.) and one that has LOTS of pictures!!! I adore pictures in cookbooks. Given that criteria- which one (or two) do you folks think is best?

Wow! Thanks to all of you who recommended other cookbooks as well...I'm excited to check them out.

For a first/starter cookbook, I always recommend "Living on Live Foods" cookbook AND the DVD by Alissa Cohen. It's easy, fun, and informative. The DVD is so great if you really want to jump in and truly understand raw foods...the "why" and the "how". Definitely worth the money in my opinion.

Laurie...thanks for dropping by :) We will be back in DM in August... can't wait to see everyone! You might be surprised with the smoothies...it seems that the kids are LOVING them across the board. It's just a matter of finding their favorite...Bella really likes this one:

1 frozen banana
1 whole peeled orange
Spinach
Water enough to blend/pour (2 cups?)
1/2 packet of powdered stevia (optional)

I could never go raw (I love eggs, yogurt and cooked soups, grains and pasta way too much), but just wanted to drop in to say hi.

Any plans to be in the Des Moines area soon?

I should try some of your green smoothie recipes. Unfortunately, my boys don't even seem to like the sweet fruity smoothies, so I don't know whether they would try green, but I need to find a way to get some veggies into them.

Hi Sara!
I have a question for you about Vitamix blenders. I am saving up some money for one but went to their website and noticed that they have a new model out (the 5200) and wondered if you knew of what the differences are between that model and the 5000? I'd like the deluxe model as I like to grind my own grain for bread, etc. but am not sure about the 5000-5200 model differences and could not really make out any from the website material. If you have a moment, could you let me know about this?
Thanks!

I love Raw Food Made Easy by Jennifer Cornbleet. I also really like Baby Greens. I also love many of the books you already own. I have tried the bunny juice and the sun dried tomato hummus that you recommended and love those and green lemonade and green smoothies as well, so I am thinking our taste buds are down with the same flavors :). I also love raw food detox diet. That is one of my favorites, but that is because it has released me from feeling I need to eat 100% raw (though it is the highest vibrational choice) and I think because of this, I am choosing to eat more raw now. It has some really yum raw recipes and some really simple cooked food recipes as well.

Yum, I love raw cookbooks. Whenever I'm struggling a bit with this lifestyle, I quickly I try a new recipe, and my excitement for raw living comes rushing back to me.

My absolute favorite, by far, is

ani's raw food kitchen. I heart Ani Phyo. Her youtube demonstrations really helped get me started!!

I also have ...
rawvolution
rawsome
the complete book of raw food

I read green for life one day at the book store (I couldn't stop, lol) and I love that one, too. I just haven't felt inclined to buy it yet.

Raw Foods Real World was another book I picked up and thumbed through at the book store. Quite a sexy little book, but the recipes seemed a bit complex (more gourmet then my liking) for me, so I put it down. I would love to hear a "real person" review of the book. Are the recipes really as complex as they seem (time consuming, using a lot of specialty (ie - costly, lol) products)?

Living on Live Foods is on my list. I frequent Alissa's message board atleast once a day, and I've heard nothing but great things about her book.

I have Raw Food, Life Force Energy and love it! There aren't too many recipes in there, but they tend to be really easy and not take special equipment. I've gotten Rawsome a few times from the library, but it seems dehydrator-heavy to me and I can't try most of the really yummy stuff. I still want to buy Raw Food Real World, although a lot of those recipes seem like something I'd only do for special occasions as well.
