question about the dehydrator...is it made of plastic? And how do you feel about plastic touching your food as it warms? Do you know if it is BPA and phthalate free? Thanks for the help!

Also...I would like to eat more raw...but some of this stuff seems so overwhelming, where did you begin?

Jessica..in my mind, there just isn't even another dehydrator to consider. Excalibur is THE dehydrator to buy if you're trying to control heating temps. Don't know about energy usage...but I seem to remember reading that it's pretty low because the temp is so low.

I am so tempted to get a food dehydrator... and to just click the link to the one you have since I am pretty sure you did the good research and I am not feeling researchy right now!

Any negatives that you suspect w/ this particular dehydrator other than just size issues? One thing too is that I couldn't find on the link anything that expressed how much energy it uses... if it's more or less than "standard" dehydrators. Any feedback about that you know of?

And that Calm stuff is killer good... we give out samples where I work all the time... leg cramps are a huge one that people use it for... I can't say I'm a fan of the taste, but the benefits are worth it. Ooh... if you take too much for your body you can get over constipation, too... my boyfriend found out the hard way on that one :)

Deanna...
The best book about raw kids I've seen is "Baby Greens"
http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Greens-Live-Food-Approach-Children/dp/1583941371

Jingee and Storm also have an ebook about it. It's on this page...scroll down on the left. eBook #3 I think:
http://www.thegardendiet.com/kidsblog/blog1.html

The dehydrator we got is the Excalibur 4-tray. I don't do a lot of dehydrating and wanted a smaller unit, but with a bigger family, I would go with the 9 tray for sure. Click the word dehydrator above to be taken to the one I bought.

Laurel...I don't think it was me. I just got those as a sample with my order, but haven't tried them yet. So glad it's working for you! That's awesome.

I have been using that Calm drink (I am using Mama Calm) while pregnant and it has done WONDERS for me....was it you that originally recommended it to me? I don't remember but I like it a lot. Matt has been struggling with sleep apnea and anxiety lately and he takes the regular Calm and it helps him too. Good stuff!

Sara: I am salivating at your mail! We are still somewhere on that Raw Spectrum. Have you read a book that talks about Raw and Kids? I have been looking for one this weekend. I know Paul Nisson is raising his baby raw so maybe he will write a book along the way. One more question....what dehydrator did you buy? We are shopping for that and a breville via craigslist.
Thanks for your constant raw food encouragement here at Happy Foody. I read on FB that your ph is alkaline! Woohoo! You should have an Alkalinity party or something - that's exciting!
