When I was at my last midwife appointment with Rebecca, I saw that she had this fabulous banner from Green Leafy at her office and I knew I just HAD to have one. AND…I loved it so much that I bought an extra one to give away to one lucky reader of Happy Foody! The banner (34″ x 7″) is laminated shows all the food sources for the vitamins and minerals we need. It’s a great learning tool for kids and adults!
I will choose a winner at random on Friday, August 28 at noon. To enter to win, just leave a comment below and answer the following question:
What/who inspires you?
(doesn’t have to be food related)

Oops forgot to write about who inspires me….
My 10 yr old daughter passed away a little over a week ago after battling cancer for about a year. She has inspired me & countless others to make the most of what life deals us. She has inspired me to better myself both physically and mentally. She has taught me that life is way too short, to make sure my loved ones know who much I love them, and too squeeze as much out of life as I can. It was because of her that I started my journey into learning about raw foods, the vegan diet, and green smoothies. I miss her so much. So she’s the one who inspires me.

YOU! I have easily cut out excessive amounts of meat and am smoothly moving toward a vegetarian lifestyle. The real difference that you make is in how gentle you urge me to be with myself as I adapt to new choices. Thank you!

I’m equally inspired by those who came before me and those who are following in my footsteps. The choices I make are both in the memory of my grandfather, who died of lung cancer in July…and to set a good example for my eleven-month old daughter.

This is going to sound so corny, but I thought about it for a good, long while, and the most inspiring thing to me is “the reality of beauty”. I am easily inspired by people and their willpower and accomplishments. I am driven on by my kids and how forgiving and determined they are. But the underlying force for all of that is “the reality of beauty”. Beautiful, strong, good forces exist and you can see them all around you. That reality is what helps me through, one day at a time.

My daughter inspires me. I am a first time mom, and I knew motherhood would change a person, but it is amazing how much my priorities have shifted. Before her, I was always worrying, thinking about my career, doing everything but enjoying life. But, now that I have a curious, passionate, wonderful little one-year-old, I realize that my priority is, after God, family. She is such a blessing, and every day — every MOMENT — I am grateful for and inspired by her.

Bannarli servirebbe a poco essendo l iscrizione anonima.

I am inspired by people who live their lives as they feel is the best way for them..people that maybe go against the trend of normal.. I love to hear/read of people that live their own way without ever feeling like they have to justify themselves to others.

I can think of many different people who have inspirational stories but the one person who I’ll mention is my grandmother. My grandma got married at 19 years old and raised several children on a homestead with a pot bellied stove to cook on and keep warm with, and an outhouse to use when nature called. Food during the depression could be very scarce, my mother recalls rounding up dandelions at times for “greens”. (Believe it or not dandelions are quite nutritious!). Laundry was hung on a line even in the winter. The clothes would be frozen and stiff so when they were brought in they had to warm them up around the pot belly stove. And ladies…no feminine hygiene…thus the “rag” washed and reused when necessary. My grandma raised 7 children although the first one died at 5 months from pneumonia…no penicillin then. Look back in your family histories and I’ll bet you can also be inspired by some strong pioneer women. π

I know that sounds a little kooky, but nothing moves me more than watching others as they are overwhelmed with inspiration or happiness or emotion…

Finalmente proprio FPS come quetsi ci aspettavamo su wii!!!

Some of my greatest inspirations are Ghandi, The Peace Pilgrim, BKS Iyengar, and Erich Schiffman (yoga teacher). There are many, many more. I am inspired by people who don’t judge, who follow their own path, and those who hold honesty and integrity close to their heart. I am inspired by those who radiate peace, non-violence, and lead by example.
I would LOVE to have this wonderful banner as I plan on homeschooling my kids and nutrion education to me is VERY important. Thank you for the chance!

First of all I’d like to say that I am so addicted to these green smoothies! This is only the second one that I have made but its like why haven’t I been doing this!?!?!?
O.k who inspires me? Right now its my six week old little girl, Anika. We have so much fun together! Singing songs, going for walks, just hanging out and getting to know each other.
It will be great when she is old enough to cook in the kitchen with momma π

I am inspired by people who take the time to eat well and care for themselves. I try my hardest, but being a super busy 20-something, it doesn’t always work out. Other’s look at me for inspiration, but I have to tell them I am not super healthy at all.
Being a figure skater (still!!!) I try really hard at this, and it is something I am still mastering. I guess it just comes down to the small victories, and that, I can be happy about!

I am inspired by so many people for different reasons. My mothers determination to survive, my husbands determination to be an awesome husband and father and my kids determination to have fun no matter what the circumstance. And of course, I am inspired by Happy Foody!
Love the banner. This would be such an awesome teaching tool for the kiddos.

Actually, you inspire me! I hope that’s not creepy. π But I just love your lifestyle. I read your blog almost everyday for a little bit of inspiration. I’ve shown all of my roommates your Minnie-Winnie renovations because that is my goal for the moment, saving up and converting one so I can travel as I please. But over all, you just seems like such a loving mother, wife, person, and spirit.

I am inspired by people who choose to live honestly and do what is right for themselves, our society, and our planet — despite what those around them may be doing. An example is my lovely friend Miriam, who has vowed not to buy anything for herself for an entire year just because she knows that she has enough. I am inspired by people who choose to continually challenge themselves because they know its the only way to really live.

I just love this poster. I have it in my kitchen in the UK. I’m surprised you can get it in the USA, too. There are more in this series, including simple sun salutation yoga poses, natural home cleaning recipes, and at least one other I can’t remember (maybe home remedies?).
Since I have this I don’t need to enter the contest, but I’ll add to the list for fun. I think other regular gals inspire me, especially through the blog-o-sphere. Slow food, wholesome, family-orientated and natural lives as lived by real women makes me hopeful about my own future and a bit envious of them, too. I guess in the same vein my children inspire me. I don’t have any yet but I want a family very much and a lot of what I am trying to do with my lifestyle is for and because of them, whoever and whenever they might be!
Barney Frank is inspiring me right now, too, with the way he has fearlessly and wryly handled critics of everything from his sexual orientation to his support of public health care. He kind of makes me want to go into politics.
Animals and a natural world always inspire me. Even if it’s just watching our bees in the garden I learn from them. At the moment they’re quietly berating me for not being more industrious!

Hi Sara!
This is a little off-topic—as I couldn’t discover how to e-mail you directly—but I was wondering….
How much Omega-3 should you take in, through your diet?
How do supplements play into the diet?
(Ex: Should I not take my daily fish oil supplement, if I’m getting omega 3s from veggie sources?)
Thanks!

Jennifer Smith | August 25, 2009 at 9:33 am
My mom and my sister inspire me. My mother is now 52yrs old, but at the age of 45, she needed a double by-pass. 2 years later, at the age of 47.5, she delivered a healthy baby boy who has been a true blessing to our family. And even though there are things now, that I pass along to her about natural living and frugality, she was my cornerstone in moving towards the lifestyle I keep now.
My 20yo sister inspires me through her amazing love for the Lord and her constant seeking of His will in her life. I wish I could have 1/10th of the faith she has, and she is always pushing my spiritual life and driving me to seek Christ in all that I and my family does.

My family and especially my daughter inspire me. To see the world through her eyes at 15 months has been amazing, and also makes me want to slow down. Whether she sees a balloon at the grocery store, or a bug outside, the excitement that she has about such small things make me really want to do the best that I can possibly do π

Oooooo! I love this banner! As I have gotten into running, I have finally started to see my food choices as fuel for my body, instead of do’s and don’ts…I would rather try to find my nutrients in REAL food instead of supplements too! As far as who I admire, I would say, My friend LIsa. No matter what she is going through, she really tries to find a way to thank God for it and see it as a growing experience. This has really changed her into a joyful person and that is so refereshing!

I’m inspired by many people. You inspire me to stick with the healthy way of living. Katie Kendrick inspires me to express my emotions through paint. My parents inspire me to live a full life. So many inspirations everywhere…. The banner is gorgeous. Thank you for the opportunity to win it.

Jes | August 25, 2009 at 11:43 am
This banner is so freakin adorable! Talk about a very visual way to explain where the nutrients come from for us adults and my wonderful children!!! We’d love to be added to the drawing!
It is so hard to narrow it down to who/what inspires me. I honestly have to say it is everything surrounding me. The woods around us and it’s inhabitants, our animals, our neighbors, my family and friends, my life parter and loving husband, and most importantly my amazign children. Slowing down to enjoy the “little” things in life that are all around us has helped inspire me to enjoy all of life’s beauties! You get to live only one life…fill it with learning and living and loving as much as possible!
86.

This may sound unusual, but what has been a huge source of inspiration for me this past year is the disease I was diagnosed with about 4 months ago – multiple sclerosis. Through it, I’ve been inspired to cut meat and dairy out of my diet, all things processed and artificial and get back to the kitchen to make *everything* from scratch! My family has experienced miraculous changes through this new way of eating and it truly has been wonderful. I could’ve let this diagnosis get me down, but instead have turned my life and the lives of my family around through healthy living and eating. Life is good!

Your blog inspires me! Since discovering it I’ve been drinking green smoothies, bought some Chia (I only thought it was for pets), some Morning Jing, and a VitaMix! I’ve been so excited about changing my lifestyle. My reluctant husband had his first Morning Jing green smoothie and loved it. Some of my friends have caught on to my enthusiasm too!

Definitely my husband. He’s taught me so much about living healthier, taking care of my spiritual temple as well as my physical. Truly inspiring me right now because he’s off fighting in the desert. He’d love to see something like this hanging in our kitchen. Cheers, K.

Wow, I would love to win this poster!! Maybe cliche, but I’ve been truly inspired in the last year by both my husband and my blogging friends/the blog world in general. Both have pushed me to better myself in SO many ways by encouraging me, challenging me and inspiring me!! I’ve set many goals and reached them because of the inspiration received…it’s WAY cool!

That looks AWESOME! π
I am inspired by music and stories, both in books and onscreen. Recently, I have been inspired by the music of Jimmy Needham, especially the song “Hurricane,” and the story told in the four books of the Twilight Saga. Very unrelated, but both wonderful. π

Love the banner. If I don’t win, I just might have to buy one!

I am inspired by all of the hard-working and innovative women who came before me. When I get overwhelmed, I think of all of the trials our foremothers faced in helping us secure the freedoms and opportunities we have today. On that note, Happy Women’s Equality Day!

Hey Sara. What a great give-a-way.
Nature inspires me. I have gotten so much out of this green smoothie challenge as I partake in greater quantities of what the best food on Earth: nature’s food. Plants and seeds and fruits were put on this Earth to feed us, nourish us, help us thrive and survive all conditions. I think so many of us have gotten away from the importance of the Earth and Mother Nature. I, for one, am grateful to be more grounded with her today.

My husband and my little baby fetus inspires me. My husband really keeps me going and when I get down he is a constant and consistent reminder that I need to be doing things to get up and to get involved in my world. Since I found I was pregnant on June 25th of this year with our first child, I have also been just utterly shocked and feel inspired every day to just live and be happy and healthy. This little boy or girl has caused me to start eating much healthier, I’ve lost already twenty pounds since becoming pregnant and I’m hoping to just be a happy and healthy mother.
I am so thankful for and inspired by them!

Love the banner, count me in!
Children inspire me, mine and others. I’m a toddler teacher and our school sets aside 30% of seats for special needs children. The children inspire me to be the best teacher I can be. And the parents inspire me to strive for patients and a strong dose of humor!
Food wise – my children inspire me to buy organic…even $5+ milk (ouch).
Peace.

Who inspires me?
People who change their lives to live more compassionately. It is easy to keep doing what you’re doing out of habit, but to see something as “not right”, find out more, and decide to change your life (even if it’s a little work). It’s easy to ignore cruelty, it takes a little effort to recognize cruelty and hate, and change your consuming to not support those who are cruel.
To be part of the solution instead of supporting the problem, that is inspiring to me.
133.
Hallie | August 26, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Artists–people who live an inspired life, or are inspired by life. In particular, my husband, my parents, my best friend and many of the wonderful people I’ve met since moving.

My two gifts from the earth, Liam and Chaela, inspire me more than anything else. They inspire me to give back to the earth and replenish what many take. Through every phase of life my mother always has been my constant. As a child she soothed and comforted. As I emerged into adulthood she stood quietly by watching my independence develop, praying. She stood vigil through my son’s long labor and birth, very present and aware of my need for her. She supported my self education on nutrition and juicing, my adventures in Midwifery school. and presently a threatened miscarriage. She inspires me to look within and upward. She definitely inspires me.

I am inspired by my mom. When I was growing up, she always encouraged my sister and I to do great things and was pushing us hard to succeed in school and life. But she never failed to remind us that if we fail, she’ll be there for us and that she loves us anyway, that we are the best daughters in the world. It is a great comfort to know that somebody is right behind you at all times.

My daughter, June Margaret, inspires me. She just turned 3 months old (this side of the womb), yesterday and has been foundational for turning me into a woman I never thought I could be. For starters, a mom! I didn’t know what it meant to be selfless until June came. I know I will learn so much from her and continue to be inspired by her being a kid, and as she grows to understand it, her child-like faith.

What a great banner!
I was fortunate to know a woman who was 92 and she was a soulmate. We met through music, but she and I had a connection that was far previous to our meeting. She had her first baby at home and shared Olivia’s pregnancy with me. At 92 she was full of life and energy. She did everything yet and OH the in depth philosophical conversations we used to share. It was like she birthed with me with Olivia. Marion had a massive stroke and was put in a nursing home. Her body was useless but her mind remained in tact. It was cruel b/c her speech was affected and she knew what she wanted to say – but could control her muscles to say it. The staff dropped her on her back one night, cracked her back in two places and she died 24 hours later. I was fortunate to have visisted her the moring they dropped her and shared with her that I was pregnant again. I never got to tell her it was twins. She would have been OVER THE MOON. Her first pregnancy was a homebirth and her second was fraternal twins, vaginal unmedicated at the hospital. The twins ironically were born the day she had her stroke 1 year to the date. I miss her dearly. Her strength, eloquence, gift of insight, energy and determination has always been an inspiration to me.

What an awesome teaching tool. My hubby (a dietitian) would love it too!
Who inspires me? Brin at http://www.messythrillinglife.blogspot.com is a huge inspiration to me. She is God seeking, a gardener, a chef, a baker, a knitter, a dog lover, a nature lover, and she sees the simple things of life so beautifully. She reminds me to slow down and listen to my surroundings, to the Lord above, and to my heart.

What inspires me? First and foremost, God inspires me. The way I feel, my body and mind after eating healthy inspires me. My family inspires me, I have this constant urge to be nourishing them with the best possible things. And lastly, people like you inspire me! People who have been doing the health stuff far longer than I. People that I can relate to, look up to, and learn from.
