Mary’s Secret Garden – Ventura, CA

This is possibly the yummiest veggie burger ever made. All veggie, all VEGAN! Even the cheese. Matt devoured this at Mary’s Secret Garden in Ventura, CA, a sweet little vegan and raw cafe near the beaches in Ventura. I ordered some fresh spring rolls and a pineapple & date smoothie, but forgot to take photos. Oops! I ate them too fast.

The cafe featured all vegan food…with much of that being raw vegan. They had such a great mix of food…and they were super sweet with Bella, making her a special noodle dish upon her request. I had read rave reviews about this place, but we almost left town without checking it out. I’m so glad we didn’t…now I wish we would have been there longer so I could go every day. Yum.

A cute little outdoor patio…looking over the park across the street.

It was hoppin’ at lunch time.

A quaint little corner.

Aw, my hometown!! I’m guessing that’s where you encountered the tornado 🙂

I’ve never heard of this little place though, I typically hit up Natural Cafe over on Main St.

I use to live in Ventura… went back last summer and discovered Mary’s Secret Garden. Wow! I had the Rawvioli and then chocolate raspberry ice cream. Whoa. I’m always dreaming of Mary’ Secret Garden while landlocked here in the Midwest! We always dream of moving back to Ventura – farmers markets, beaches and now Mary’s! : )

For some eye candy, check out photos of signature dishes at yelp.com ( I can’t paste the line for some reason! Its worth a google search!)

Can’t wait to try this place when we’re out there in March/April. We are looking to re-locate to Ventura and I’m always looking for great places to add to my list. Thanks for sharing! Are you on FB or Twitter?

I wish I had known where you would be. Did you get to hit up Ojai while there? It’s wonderful and I think you would have loved it.

Tischa…yes, I am on both. @livelightly on Twitter and Sara Otis Janssen on FB.

Rebecca…I try to wait as long as possible to introduce solids. We did 1 year with Bella, but I’m thinking Lucy will be a little sooner. I will definitely blog about it when the time comes.

Heatherlee…Sorry! We did not make it up there…I wish we had, but we were a bit distracted in that area with flying in and out of LA for the holidays, a truck that was broken, etc. Someday…

Words to Eat By

"It is easier to change a man's religion than to change his diet." -Margaret Mead

"I don't understand why asking people to eat a well-balanced vegetarian diet is considered drastic, while it is medically conservative to cut people open and put them on cholesterol lowering drugs for the rest of their lives." - Dean Ornish, MD

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
