Dulse Rhymes With Pulse

Dulse
Here is a little goodie that I try to eat EVERY day. Dulse is packed with all kinds of vitamins and minerals…so good for you. I just recently started using it…before that, I would just cut up nori sheets and use those to get my sea vegetable fix. But dulse has a really different taste and I love it. It’s quite salty…it adds a really nice kick to salads, wraps, soups, sandwiches, and even smoothies! You can even buy dulse granuales and use them to replace the salt in your recipes. The most common way I eat it is cut up in my salad.

The reason I try to eat some kind of sea vegetable every day is because they are so high in iron and low iron runs in my family. But it’s also very high in iodine and B12…along with vegetable protein, potassium, magnesium, chlorophyll, enzymes, A & B Vitamins, and dietary fiber. Bella LOVES seaweed as well…but tends to stick with untoasted nori. I leave the pack low enough in the pantry so she can help herself to it when she wants. She’ll grab 2-3 sheets and a time and snack on them. Yum!

Here is what it looks like up close…it’s soft and chewy. If you don’t like the texture, you can soak it in filtered water to soften it up or throw it in the food processor to chop it into tiny bits for your salad:

Too salty for me. I added it to some rice last time I was cooking and it turned out ok but by itself it’s just unbearable.

I don’t normally eat dulse all by iteself either because of it’s extreme saltiness, but I love it IN things πŸ™‚

interesting…I always learn about new foods from you that I should force myself to try. I am also intersted in this chia that you are talking ALL about. πŸ™‚ I can not have dairy for it has been giving Will ezema rashes and I am strecthing to find that extra calcium boost, this sounds like a good solution. Can I get this just at a local health food store? I guess I have never heard of it.

I heard that seaweed is very healthy and tasty. Never had an occasion to try it myself but I’m also trying to eat only the good stuff. I eat only spelt bread (that is the most healthy and nutritious). Very important is what we eat, but almost as important thing is how do we eat. And that is not only issue of preparation process but also the components. Some meals are more healthy than other because contain specific components that fit together just like those little blocks in puzzle board. For example you can mix carbons with lipids but it is unacceptable to mix carbons with proteins. So if you eat bread you can’t eat e.g. meat. It is very complicated in real life but possible. I saw people who eat that way and their health level really increased.

Words to Eat By

"It is easier to change a man's religion than to change his diet." -Margaret Mead

"I don't understand why asking people to eat a well-balanced vegetarian diet is considered drastic, while it is medically conservative to cut people open and put them on cholesterol lowering drugs for the rest of their lives." - Dean Ornish, MD

β€œFinish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
